It is official! Chris will be returning from Iraq in the next week or so! It has been a long 15 months but he and the others will be home!

We were blessed to have Chris home for the holidays. Last year he was in Iraq during Christmas.

The dreaded call came for him to report back to Ft. Bragg. After he is back they will be deploying within a few days.

Please keep Chris, his wife, Julie and their daughter Calli in your prayers as well as our family and all of Chris' friends in prayer during this time.

We are proud of Chris, James and all the other soldiers' who are serving their country. Thank you!

Ben injured in football game!

Well, the season for Ben is over. He tore his ACL and is out for this year. He will be coming home around Thanksgiving and having surgery at that time. There is always next year.....

Ben's surgery is scheduled for Wednesday, Nov. 22 in Albany. I will be there with him and then driving him back home that day to recover (and stuff him with turkey)!

WELCOME HOME!

Finally, after 2 years, my son is back on American soil! I could not believe the feeling of relief and pride I felt when I saw him. It is so good to have him back here!

We were able to get together last night and have Bucky's favorite meal - my homemade lasagna! Bethany, Brittany, Julie, Calli, myself, Bucky and his wife, Lauren were together.

Bucky and Lauren are busy packing today and are leaving for Ft. Benning GA.

University of Albany Football

University of Albany is in the national top 25 for the first time (division 1-AA level) -

Well, they won another game this weekend. UofA beat Central Connecticut 19-14. Their record is now 3-1.

The picture here is from the week before (9/16) when UofA defeated Delaware. Ben is #45.

The weather was great (no rain) and it was not too chilly. Aimee, Bethany, Brittany, Bella, Nate, Rachel and I were in the stands to cheer our boy on!

The next home game is not until Oct. 21. We will be there!!

Update on Bayers

Bucky is coming back to the states! He will be stationed at Ft. Campbell KY. He and his wife, Lauren, will be moving there shortly after he returns on October 10. It will be great to have him so close to home!

Bethany is having surgery on Sept. 21 to remove the brackets from her gums, some stitches in her mouth and a metal bar that has been holding her top jaw together. She had the wires removed a few weeks ago and was able to start eating soft foods. She has put a few pounds on and looks fantastic! Her face is healing well and in a few months she should be all healed and able to have her teeth fixed and cheek implants.

Benjamin is doing great in Albany at school and football. They won the first game, lost the second and won the third. Aimee and her children (Nate and Bella) and I went to the home game in Albany on Sept. 9. It was great to see Ben and his girlfriend, Rachel (who goes to school in NYC). It was fun to be at a football game again. Last year was the first year no one was playing football in my family since 1986 (approx). I missed it so much!

Chris has been able to fly home for a weekend. Beth, Britt and I were able to go over to Chris and Julie's this past Sunday and watch the Buffalo Bills demolish the Miami Dolphins! Chris is scheduled to re-deploy to Iraq sometime in March unless they are called up before then.

Jeff and his family are enjoying SC and were lucky to escape the hurricane that was supposed to hit Myrtle Beach but went up to Wilmington NC instead! They had rain but were not washed away!

Recent Birthdays: Kayla turned 8 on Aug. 3, I had my birthday on Aug. 16, Aimee turned 26 on Sept. 3, Calli turned 8 on Sept. 13, and Julie turned 27 on Sept. 18!

All my boys are home! (July 10)

This has not happened in many years - all my boys together in one room (even if it is a hospital room). Bethany was so excited to see all of them together!

From left - Jeff (B-Lo), Ben, Chris, and James (Bucky). It only lasted a couple of hours because that same evening Chris and Julie left for their honeymoon and Ben went back to UAlbany that afternoon. But for a short time we were together!

I am so thankful they were able to see each other and were able to brighten Bethany's day!

My daughter, Bethany (23), was a passenger in a vehicle that was hit head on by someone who crossed the center line. The accident occured on June 30 around 11:15 pm.

Bethany fractured both of her wrists and broke every bone in her face. She had surgery on July 6 to repair the broken bones and has her jaw wired shut for the next 6-8 weeks. She is still in alot of pain but each day the swelling goes down and she looks more like herself! She was finally able to leave the hospital on July 14.

She may require more surgery in the future to repair her nose and put cheek implants in.

Thankfully she has no permanent injuries!

We love you, Bottan, and are praying for your recovery.

The Military
The average age of the military man is 19.

He is a short haired, tight-muscled kid who, under normal circumstances is considered by society as half man, half boy.

Not yet dry behind the ears, not old enough to buy a beer, but old enough to die for his country.
He's a recent High School graduate; he was probably an average student, pursued some form of sport activities, drives a ten year old jalopy, and has a steady girlfriend that either broke up with him when he left, or swears to be waiting when he returns from half a world away. He listens to rock and roll or hip-hop or rap or jazz or swing and a 155mm howizzitor. He is 10 or 15 pounds lighter now than when he was at home because he is working or fighting from before dawn to well after dusk.

Letter writing is a pain for him, but he can field strip a rifle in 30 seconds and reassemble it in less time in the dark. He can recite to you the nomenclature of a machine gun or grenade launcher and use either one effectively if he must.
He digs foxholes and latrines and can apply first aid like a professional. He can march until he is told to stop or stop until he is told to march.He obeys orders instantly and without hesitation, but he is not without spirit or individual dignity.

He is self-sufficient. He has two sets of fatigues: he washes one and wears the other. He keeps his canteens full and his feet dry. He sometimes forgets to brush his teeth, but never to clean his rifle. He can cook his own meals, mend his own clothes, and fix his own hurts.If you're thirsty, he'll share his water with you; if you are hungry, his food. He'll even split his ammunition with you in the midst of battle when you run low.He has learned to use his hands like weapons and weapons like they were his hands. He can save your life - or take it, because that is his job. He will often do twice the work of a civilian, draw half the pay and still find ironic humor in it all.

He has seen more suffering and death then he should have in his short lifetime. He has wept in public and in private, for friends who have fallen in combat, and is unashamed. He feels every note of the National Anthem vibrate through his body while at rigid attention, while tempering the burning desire to 'square-away' those around him who haven't bothered to stand, remove their hat, or even stop talking. In an odd twist, day in and day out, far from home, he defends their right to be disrespectful. Just as did his Father, Grandfather, and Great-grandfather; he is paying the price for our freedom. Beardless or not, he is not a boy.

He is the American Fighting Man that has kept this country free for over 200 years.

He has asked nothing in return, except our friendship and understanding. Remember him, always, for he has earned our respect and admiration with his blood. We even have woman over there in danger, doing their part in going to War when our nation calls us.

As you go to bed tonight, remember this...A short lull, a little shade and a picture of loved ones in their helmets.

"Lord, hold our troops in your loving hands. Protect them as they protect us. Bless them and their families for the selfless acts they perform for us in our time of need. Amen."

When you read this, please stop for a moment and say a prayerfor our ground troops in Afghanistan, sailors on ships, airmen in the air, and for those in Iraq. Of all the gifts you could give a US Soldier, Sailor, Coastguardsman, Marine or Airman, prayer is the very best one.

March 26 - National Support the Troops Day!

Pasadena, CA, March 21, 2006 (Open Release) – The Soldiers’ Angels salute Michigan teenager, Alexandra McGregor, Michigan State Representative Robert Knollenberg and Michigan Senator Debbie Stabenow for the recent passage of legislation in both the US Congress and US Senate to establish a National Support The Troops Day. This is intended for recognition of our active duty troops and the first date is set for March 26, 2006.

In a statement from the website of Representative Knollenberg, the Congressman encourages the following: “Our service men and women make enormous sacrifices to keep us safe and to protect our freedoms. They leave their homes and families, work in highly stressful and dangerous conditions, and ensure that all of us here at home are safe and secure. We need to honor these men and women and show them that Americans across the country are appreciative of their work and sacrifice,” Congressman Knollenberg said. … “With this resolution, it is my hope that our troops will know that the American people – from the 16 year girl in Waterford (Alexandra McGregor) to the Members of the U.S. House of Representatives – are grateful for their service. Our country is at war and it is more important than ever to show our appreciation for our brave and dedicated men and women in uniform.”

The legislation states “all Americans should participate in a moment of silence to reflect upon the service and sacrifice of members of the United States Armed Forces both at home and abroad.”

Soldiers Angels would like to also encourage Americans to take advantage of the National Support The Troops Day to pray for our troops and to find a way to let our troops know that they are appreciated through the sending of letters and care packages or any of the many other ways that our troops need assistance.

For those citizens who do not have time to participate in such projects, but who wish to support the military members stationed far away to guard our freedom, cash donations can be made quickly at the Soldiers’ Angels website and are put to use in the purchase of supplies for our deployed and for wounded soldiers and their families overseas and at home.

Soldiers Angels, in collaboration with Library of Life, is mounting a Guinness Book of Records attempt called Operation: Love Our Troops, to create the largest digital Valentine's Day card ever and send the messages to our deployed military.
Library of Life is an organization that offers the public a way to celebrate life and share memories on line, through a digital library that will last forever. They are sponsoring the campaign, hosting the Valentines messages for free and created a way to raise funds for Soldiers Angels.
Before the site is promoted and Operation Love Our Troops is announced to the public, we want to populate the site with genuine, heartfelt messages. Christopher is back from Iraq!

Christopher arrived back at Ft. Bragg NC around 4:15 am on Thursday, Dec. 29th. His plane came in over 2 hours early, so Julie, Calli and I were still enroute. Oh, well!! As long as they all made it back, that is all that counts.

He will be home from Jan. 26 - Feb. 12 to spend time with his family. We continue to pray for all those troops and their families that are still in Iraq and Afghanistan.

I understand how stressful it can be to have a loved one deployed. I was amazed at the feeling of relief and thankfulness that I have experienced since I have seen Chris and know that he is safely back in the U.S.

Once again the people of Western New York have lived up to their reputation as being some of the most generous people in America.
As New York State Manager of Soldiers' Angels (www.soldiersangels.com) I initiated a donation drive to send stockings to our soldiers overseas for Christmas. Thank you so much to the Clarence Public Library. They offered to be a drop-off site for the donations. In a time of fiscal uncertainty and many library closings this shows how much a part of the community our libraries are!
It was amazing and touching to see the support given for the soldiers. There were letters and cards from cub scout troops, churches, classrooms, individuals, brownie groups, and many others! The generosity of everyone was OVERWHELMING!
THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU! I was able to fill 50 stockings AND send another 50 boxes to our heroes overseas!

God bless each of you and have a Merry Christmas! I know our soldiers will!

Ben will be home from U of Albany on the 23rd, Britt is done for this semester, and Bethany and Nick just returned from a funfilled weekend in NYC!! Baby Bella will celebrate her 1st Christmas with Natie, Mommy and Daddy and all the rest of the family!!

I have been working 2 jobs and am a little crazy!

James (Bucky) will be coming home for a visit on February 22. His birthday is the next day so we will be having a huge birthday/Thanksgiving/Christmas party for him!!

....AND the best news of all.......Chris arrives back in the US from Iraq!! I am so grateful that he is coming home! Julie, Calli, Beth and I will be driving down to welcome his whole platoon of heroes home!! He will be at Ft. Bragg NC for a short time and then will be able to come home to NY for a couple of weeks!!!!!

What a great way to end this crazy year!!!!!

Chris is presently in Iraq with the Bravo Co 2/325 of the 82nd airborne. So far all is going well. Please keep him and all the other troops in your prayers!

James is still in Korea and he hopes he is able to be transferred to the states sometime after October. He will have been in Korea for 1 year as of October 11! He and his wife, Lauren, celebrated their 1st anniversay on Sept. 10 (apart). It would be great if they could be together somewhere in the USA!

Aimee had a baby girl, Isabella, on Aug. 25. They are all doing well.

I have decided to postpone moving south until sometime in the future. I need to be here with my family right now.

Ben (U of Albany) and Britt (Buff State) are doing great at college.

Bethany and Nick are remodeling their house and they are very busy. Beth is presently working 2 jobs (way to go, girl)! Jeff and his family are doing well in S. Carolina.
